World Vision Nicaragua develops an Emergency Response Plan for COVID-19

World Vision Nicaragua developed an Emergency Response Plan for the pandemic caused by COVID-19 virus. The plan was design three months and has an organizations and community focus.

The Emergency Response Plan created by the organization aims to “Contribute to the prevention and reduction of the spread of COVID-19 in communities and WVNIC projects, strengthening the protection of children (including CR) and their families against infection, as well as strengthening preparedness and response actions in alignment with Ministry of Health protocols”, says Bayardo Figueroa, National Coordinator of Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs of World Vision Nicaragua.

“Our co-wokers were train on COVID-19 and prevention forms, so they take measures at professional and personal level. Also, 80% of the personnel are working with telework modality and the 20% remaining ​​are executing awareness and prevention actions in the communities”, says Figueroa.

To protect the health of collaborators, World Vision Nicaragua installed more sinks and gel alcohol dispensers in its facilities, delivered bottled alcohol gel and masks to the staff; likewise, it established strategic routes so that the workers who move in collective transport can use the organization’s vehicles to prevent contagion.

At the community level, and focus on children protection, the organization has implemented a series of actions against the prevention of COVID-19; It has started with the delivery of 15,500 hygiene kits for girls, boys and adolescents in 71 schools in five crowded municipalities in the country. Likewise, 530 cleaning kits have been delivered to churches and schools. World Vision Nicaragua plans to deliver 20,000 hygiene kits in five other communities.

At the same time, conversations have begun with the Ministry of Health in order to identify and assess the needs that girls, boys and their families would have if they were affected by the virus. From the organization, families will be provided direct help with food, psycho-emotional support and nebulizers.

Figueroa says “if necessary, Health Centers at the communities where World Vision serves, will be supported with the donation of nebulizers and chlorine-making machines.”
