World Vision Nicaragua committed with children well-being began the delivery of 15,500 hygiene kits to children and adolescents from five territories that the organization accompanies, in order to influence Coronavirus (COVID- 19) prevention.
The kits will be individually delivered and consist of three soaps, a hand towel and a pack of napkins for immediate drying and disposable use. These supplies will be delivered to 71 schools at the municipalities of Tipitapa, San Marcos, La Concepción, Nandaime and Malpaisillo.
Likewise, at the community level, 530 cleaning kits will be delivered (1 gallon of chlorine, 1 liter of liquid soap, 1 wick of a washcloth, 6 rolls of toilet paper, 1 kitchen towel and 1 odor soap) for schools, churches and health centers. The donations will be distributed at the current week.
The donation arises “with a focus on child protection, recognizing the needs of the community in the threat of COVID-19. At this moment, we are in prevention stage and the first five selected territories were those with urban characteristics where there is more agglomeration of houses and families; but, the objective is to reach all the territories where we have a presence “, assured Javier Moncada, Director of Operations of World Vision Nicaragua
Along with the donation, trainings on COVID-19 will be given in schools, raising awareness of the importance of personal hygiene and hand washing to combat the virus; as well, as the responsibility of adults in children´s protection.
In addition, a virus prevention campaign will begin that will consist of blankets and stickers that will be placed at strategic points in the communities.
Moncada assured that the donation and prevention campaign are part of a response plan that the organization developed in the face of the threat of COVID-19 and that encompasses actions at the community and organizational level, to equally as well, the care of workers’ health.
The delivery of hygiene kits is being coordinated with the Ministry of Education – MINED and with the Ministry of Health – MINSA (according to Spanish acronyms). However, according to the level of school attendance, the option of distributing the kits directly to girls, boys and adolescents at the communities will be valued.
As World Vision Nicaragua, we reiterate our commitment to children well-being and we ensure that our staff, responsible for deliveries, are complying with security standards for the prevention/ transmission of the virus.
Likewise, we reiterate that it takes a world; it takes parents, churches, the State, companies, institutions, etc. to ensure Nicaraguan children’s health.
